What Is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a modern treatment method, first developed approximately a hundred years ago in the USA by Dr. Andrew T. Still. The method strives to make the skeletal and muscular systems function optimally and so assist the body in using all its self-healing powers. The osteopathic treatment relieves the body of its restrictions and lack of movement, and thus helps patients feel better and removes the  deep-rooted causes of illness.

Osteopathy's main principles are:

  • The body has an innate ability to maintain its health
  • Structure dominates function: That is ,a body part/area with a structural defect cannot function properly
  • A body part/area with a flawed blood supply is prone to illness

In addition, osteopathic therapists believe that perfect health is achieved by physical, emotional and spiritual equilibrium.

Dr. Still developed the osteopathic treatment method in the late nineteenth century since he was dissatisfied with healing solutions provided by classic medicine. Dr. Still created a holistic treatment method that strives for complete body equilibrium, in order to balance blood flow and metabolism, so that the body will be able to use its self-healing powers. Dr. Still based his school in the USA, and soon after, his doctrine became widely known across the Atlantic as well. Osteopathy enables clinicians to treat complex medical cases using subtle techniques, which are all taught at the Israeli Institute for Applied Osteopathy.

These techniques include:

Structural (Manual) Osteopathy - This technique strives to restore the structural harmony of the muscles and skeleton, in order to help blood and lymph flow properly to the various organs, and is achieved by moving,  stretching and manipulating the body.

Cranial Osteopathy - The goal of cranial therapy is to restore the volatility of the cranial bones, relieve tensions of inner brain tissues and balance the flow of intracranial fluid, and thus improve the patient's specific medical condition  as well as general well-being.

Visceral Osteopathy - This treatment refers to the internal organs and their interconnections, and its goal is to restore the movement and volatility of the organ diagnosed as being unbalanced, in order for it to function properly.

About the Institute
For the first time ever, an osteopathy school was established in Israel, in cooperation with the Zinman College of Physical Education in Wingate Institute. The Israeli Institute for Applied Osteopathy was founded by Bruno Rosemblaum, BPT. DO, and Josi Potaznik,  MD.DO, in order to train clinicians in the various osteopathic treatment methods.
